Project Overview

"Honglou 1905" is an urban renewal project in the Honglou area of Jinan, aiming to transform old factory buildings into an urban complex integrating cultural creativity, commerce and leisure. The core area of the project is an old German-style factory building built in 1905, with a building area of approximately 8,000 square meters. Due to years of disrepair, the factory building's roof is severely damaged and the internal space utilization rate is low.

Challenges

The old factory buildings are historical buildings under protection, and the original building appearance and structural features must be strictly preserved during the renovation process;

The factory has a large interior space, and traditional roof repairs are costly, time-consuming, and cannot meet the lighting and ventilation requirements of modern commercial spaces.

The renovated space needs to have a flexible layout to accommodate the needs of different business types.

Solution

Superb provided a customized SP-HB80 air-supported membrane roof system for the project. This system utilizes a semi-transparent PVDF membrane material, ensuring ample natural light while effectively blocking ultraviolet rays. The membrane is installed on the existing factory walls using a special fixing method, preserving the building's historical appearance to the greatest extent possible. It is equipped with intelligent lighting and ventilation systems that automatically adjust according to the indoor environment. A key highlight of the solution is its "openable" air-supported membrane design, allowing the roof to be partially opened on sunny days, creating an open-plan space experience.
