The Phase III Expansion and Renovation Project of Qingdao Municipal Hospital East Campus is a key livelihood project in Qingdao. Jointly organized and constructed by the Qingdao Municipal Construction and Engineering Development Center and the Municipal Hospital, the project covers a total construction area of approximately 103,000 square meters. Upon completion, it will integrate functions such as an emergency and critical care center, a surgical center, and a health management center, adding 462 beds and 1,120 parking spaces, significantly improving the city's capacity to supply high-quality medical resources. Located in the city's core area, surrounded by dense residential areas, office buildings, and commercial complexes, the project innovatively adopted air-supported membrane technology for foundation pit construction in accordance with green and environmentally friendly construction principles.

The project is located in the city's core area, and the surrounding environment is sensitive. The dust and noise generated by traditional open-air construction will seriously affect the normal lives of hospital patients and surrounding residents.

The weather in Qingdao is changeable, with frequent severe weather such as strong winds, rain, and low temperatures. Traditional construction methods are easily affected by the weather, leading to delays in the construction period.

The foundation pit was excavated to a depth of 24 meters, with an excavation volume of approximately 300,000 cubic meters. Traditional construction methods pose high safety risks and are difficult to control dust pollution.

Supai, in collaboration with a research team from Harbin Institute of Technology, customized the nation's tallest complex irregular-shaped foundation pit air-supported membrane system. This 45-meter-high membrane, covering approximately 15,000 square meters, uses a matte gray high-strength PVDF membrane material that matches the exterior color of surrounding buildings, blocking over 95% of construction dust and reducing noise by over 40%. Equipped with intelligent control systems for ventilation, temperature monitoring, air quality monitoring, and photovoltaic power generation, it can proactively adjust to environmental changes. Utilizing modular assembly and intelligent inflation technology, the entire system was erected in just 8-10 days. The solution's highlights include five key benefits: dust suppression, low noise, energy saving, fire prevention, and intelligent management. It also features innovative applications in natural lighting within the membrane, water curtain temperature control, and green energy.

Outcomes

The average PM10 concentration outside the air-supported membrane structure at the construction site was approximately 59% lower than that in similar open construction environments for foundation pits.

Construction noise at 1 meter outside the air-supported membrane is reduced by more than 30 dB(A) compared to when there is no cover;

A total of 48 days of construction time were saved;

This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4.3 tons.

The temperature inside the membrane is 6-8°C higher than the outdoor temperature, which improves the working environment for workers.
